Ssi'Katha
Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
Most oracles receive divine truth the way light passes through water: bent, filtered, colored by the vessel it travels through. Their own hopes, fears, assumptions, and desires act on the signal before it arrives, which is why prophecy is so frequently symbolic, metaphorical, and subject to interpretation. Something in Ssi'Katha's bloodline removes the water entirely. When truth comes to her it comes clean. Unfiltered. Undistorted by who she is or what she wants or what she fears the answer might be.
She does not interpret what Kal'Rexpan sends her. She receives it as it was sent, and then she says it plainly, because it was already plain when it arrived. This is the Mist Chimera's quality of blending multiple aspects turned into a perceptual gift: she stands between the material and the divine and neither bends her. She carries the message without becoming part of it.
The tribe recognized this in her before she understood it herself. The previous high priestess watched a child who never confused her own wishes for revelation, who reported what she perceived without embellishment or comfort, who was constitutionally incapable of softening a hard truth into something easier to receive, and understood that this was not a personality trait but a bloodline one. Oracles who filter are common. Oracles who do not filter are how cults survive centuries with their theology intact.
This is not omniscience. Truth does not arrive on command. She cannot demand answers. She simply does not corrupt them when they come. The secondary expression is quieter and has caused her more social difficulty than any other aspect of who she is. Her presence creates a low, sourceless discomfort in people who are actively deceiving. Not exposure. Not accusation. Just the faint sensation of being seen more clearly than they intended, the Mist Chimera's illusion affinity operating in reverse, dissolving rather than creating the comfortable fogs people construct around their half-truths. Practiced liars can push through it with effort. Casual ones qualify their statements without meaning to, add unnecessary clarifications, become oddly precise about things they had intended to leave vague.
She does not notice herself doing this to them. She notices only that people seem to find her tiring. Among her own people this quality is considered sacred. Among surface nobles it is considered rude. Ssi'Katha sees no meaningful distinction between these two assessments. Venom, she has said, is honest. It does not pretend to be anything but what it is. Neither does she, and neither, as it turns out, does the bloodline she was born carrying.
Physical Description
Ssi'Katha is a striking figure standing at 5'9", with dark hair that frames a face marked by subtle serpentine features. Her skin bears a pattern of emerald scales across her forehead and arms, giving her an otherworldly appearance that marks her clearly as Vishkanya. Her eyes hold a mesmerizing quality that seems to pierce through to one's very soul, and many find it difficult to maintain eye contact with her for extended periods. She moves with a fluid, serpentine grace that seems almost supernatural, and her movements are deliberate and purposeful. Her appearance has changed little since ascending to her role as Duchess, though she now occasionally wears garments that blend her traditional tribal attire with the more formal expectations of nobility.
A distinctive green scale pattern on her forehead resembles a crown, marking her from birth as chosen by Kal'Rexpan according to tribal tradition. Ritual scarification along her arms glows faintly during ceremonies, pulsing with subtle magical energy when she channels her oracular powers. She unconsciously sways like a cobra when deep in thought, a habit that unnerves those unfamiliar with Vishkanya mannerisms. Currently in the middle stages of pregnancy, her condition is visible but does not seem to slow her down or diminish her commanding presence in the slightest.
