Hollowfang, The Mute Wyrmling
Appearance
Hollowfang is a small blue dragon wyrmling with deep sapphire scales that shimmer with hints of silver in the light. His eyes are large and expressive, a brilliant blue that reflects both intelligence and the wariness of someone who has known only cruelty until recently. Despite his small size, he carries himself with the innate dignity of dragonkind, though this is tempered by the cautious movements of someone who expects pain. His wings are still developing but show promise of future majesty, and his tail often curls protectively around himself when nervous.
Unique Characteristics
Like his companion Attritti, Hollowfang was born without vocal cords, making him completely mute and unable to produce the roars, growls, or speech typical of dragons. When content or feeling safe, he makes a soft humming vibration in his chest that serves as his version of a purr.

Background & History
Born Into Captivity
Hollowfang hatched in the brutal confines of a slaver's compound, never knowing the freedom or protection that should be every dragon's birthright. Born without vocal cords and unable to roar or call for help, he was seen as defective merchandise by his captors. The ogre guard who watched over the slaves took particular pleasure in tormenting the silent wyrmling, calling him "Whimper" mockingly and using him as an outlet for casual cruelty whenever boredom struck.
Life Under the Ogre's Fist
For the first two and a half years of his existence, Hollowfang knew nothing but pain, hunger, and fear. The ogre would kick him for sport, deny him food for days, and use his small size as entertainment for other slavers. Unable to cry out or plead for mercy, Hollowfang learned to endure in silence, developing an intelligence and wariness far beyond his young years. He survived by making himself as small and unnoticeable as possible, though this rarely spared him from the ogre's attention.
The Green Boy's Sacrifice
Everything changed when a small green boy appeared in the slaver's compound and witnessed Hollowfang being brutalized by the ogre. Despite being beaten and broken himself, Attritti threw himself between the wyrmling and his tormentor, grabbing Hollowfang and holding him close even as the ogre shattered both the boy's legs in retaliation. In that moment, Hollowfang experienced kindness for the first time in his short life, as someone willingly suffered to protect him.
Ten Days of Bonding
Locked together in a tiny stone cell for ten days, sharing half a cup of water and half a loaf of bread, Hollowfang and Attritti formed an unbreakable bond. The wyrmling used his small size to help the injured boy stay warm, while Attritti shared what little food they had and protected Hollowfang from the worst of their captors' attention. Neither could speak, but they developed their own language of touch, gesture, and shared understanding born of mutual suffering and protection.
Liberation and New Name
When Arties arrived disguised as a drow slave owner and purchased all the slaves to free them, she found Hollowfang still curled protectively against Attritti's chest. After magical healing restored their bodies, Arties provided the young dragon with an education about dragon names and heritage, encouraging him to choose something better than the cruel "Whimper" his captors had used. He selected "Hollowfang" as a acknowledgment of the pain that shaped him while asserting that despite being broken, he remains capable of strength and loyalty.

Protecting His Bond-Brother
Hollowfang's primary purpose in life is ensuring Attritti's safety and wellbeing. Their shared suffering created a bond deeper than mere friendship, and the wyrmling sees the green boy's protection as his most sacred duty. He wants to grow strong enough to never again watch helplessly while Attritti suffers, and dreams of the day when his size and power will make him truly capable of defending the one person who showed him kindness in his darkest hour.
Understanding His Dragon Heritage
Having been denied knowledge of his own kind and raised in captivity, Hollowfang is eager to learn about dragon culture, abilities, and his place in the world. Arties' gift of education about dragon names was his first taste of this heritage, and he hungers for more understanding of what it means to be a dragon. He wants to develop his natural abilities and magic, not for dominance or power, but to become worthy of the proud lineage he represents despite his traumatic beginning.
Learning to Trust and Heal
While Hollowfang has found safety in Goodberry, he still struggles with the trauma of his early years and the fear that safety is temporary. He wants to learn to trust other people beyond Attritti and to overcome the panic and aggression that large strangers still trigger in him.
