Bloodline Ability

-- Unknown ---
This Bloodline ability has not yet been unveiled to you.

Physical Description

Appearance
Rumble is compact and low to the ground in the way that a boulder is compact, occupying space with a density that seems disproportionate to his current size. His body is covered in interlocking plates of blue-grey armored scale that catch light differently depending on the angle, shifting between slate and something closer to dark steel. Along his dorsal ridge, a row of raised fin-plates shimmer with iridescent teal, the only part of him that looks decorative rather than defensive. His face is blunt and beaked, his amber eyes set wide and steady, the kind of eyes that are always processing and never in a hurry about it. He moves deliberately, each step placed with a weight that suggests he has already decided exactly where his foot is going before he lifts it.

Unique Characteristics
The teal iridescence of his dorsal fin-plates intensifies slightly when he is content or concentrating, and flattens to a dull grey-green when he is annoyed, functioning as an inadvertent mood indicator for those who learn to read it. His claws are already notable for their length and are kept scrupulously clean in a way that suggests instinctive care rather than learned behavior. As a Primordial Bulette, he carries an ancestral connection to earth and stone that expresses itself in a subtle, constant vibration felt through the ground when he is at rest, a barely perceptible tremor as if the earth is humming along with him. His telepathic communication with Hotaru is already fully formed in structure, arriving in short complete thoughts rather than the raw emotional projection typical of newly hatched beastbonds, a direct consequence of the cultivation he received before hatching.

  • Will not be moved once he has decided to stay put

[Pressed flat to the ground, watching Hotaru pace at two in the morning, a thought arriving through the bond with the unhurried weight of a stone dropping into still water:] "Why you awake?"

[Mid-meal, consuming something that is definitely not food, transmitting a single satisfied word without interrupting himself:] "Good."

[Observing a heated argument across the room, dorsal fins flat, a calm and accurate assessment offered through the bond:] "Girl very angry."

[Pausing at the entrance to a tunnel, lowering his beak toward the earth for a moment, then sending a single decisive thought:] "I go down."

Background & History

What a Primordial Bulette Is
Standard Bulettes are already formidable creatures, armored land-sharks that burrow through earth and stone with frightening speed and surface without warning to take prey. A Primordial Bulette is something older and considerably more significant: a variant tied to the deep geological memory of Xeres itself, whose ancestral line predates most recorded fauna and whose connection to earth and stone goes beyond instinct into something closer to affinity. Where a common Bulette senses vibration to hunt, a Primordial feels the structure of the ground beneath it the way a person feels their own heartbeat. They are exceptionally rare, grow to extraordinary size with age, and are not known to form bonds with anything. Rumble is, therefore, a notable exception to almost everything that is understood about his species.

Cultivated Before Hatching
Most beastbonds emerge from their eggs as blank slates: aware of their bond partner, capable of emotional projection, but developmentally newborn in every meaningful sense. Rumble's egg was tended differently. Through means not fully understood even by those who facilitated it, the egg received sustained cultivation during its gestation period, the cosmic energy fed into the shell in measured, deliberate amounts over weeks before hatching. The result is a creature who arrived in the world already two developmental stages ahead of where he should be. He did not need to learn to communicate through the bond. He simply did, from the first moment, in fully structured thoughts. He did not need weeks to begin recognizing the nature of his own instincts. He came equipped with them, already in working order.

The Bond With Hotaru
The beastbond between Rumble and Hotaru formed at the moment of hatching, as all such bonds do, snapping into place with the irreversible certainty of a lock finding its key. For Rumble, whose cultivated development meant he was already processing the world with more sophistication than a newborn should possess, the bond did not arrive as something overwhelming or disorienting. It arrived as something obvious, the way gravity is obvious: present, constant, requiring no explanation. Hotaru is the fixed point. Everything else is variable. Rumble has not complicated this beyond that summary and shows no interest in doing so.

The Gem Stash
Within three days of hatching, Rumble had already located, excavated, and hidden a stash. Where it is, only he knows, and he has shown no interest in disclosing this information even to Hotaru, through whom he communicates everything else without particular reservation. The stash currently contains several pieces of quartz, a smooth piece of hematite that he clearly considers the centerpiece, two copper coins that caught the light in a satisfying way, and a small amethyst whose origin no one has successfully accounted for. He visits the stash regularly. He does not announce these visits. He returns looking settled in the specific way of someone who has just confirmed that everything important is still where they left it.

Early Days in Goodberry
Rumble's arrival in Goodberry produced a range of reactions. Those familiar with Bulettes reacted with the wariness that species typically earns. Those unfamiliar with Bulettes reacted to a heavily armored creature the size of a large cat that was visibly assessing the structural integrity of the ground beneath everything it walked over. Children were, predictably, fascinated. Rumble's response to all of this was the same: a slow amber-eyed survey of whoever was reacting, a brief assessment transmitted to Hotaru if he deemed it warranted, and then a return to whatever he had been doing before the interruption. He has already settled into Goodberry with the confidence of something that does not worry much about whether it belongs anywhere, because it has already decided that it does.

Goals

Expanding the Stash
Rumble's most consistent and clearly observable motivation is the ongoing improvement and expansion of his gem collection. He responds to the sight of anything that catches light with the focused attention of a professional evaluating a potential acquisition, and has demonstrated a capacity to remember the location of every interesting stone he has ever encountered, including ones he decided not to take immediately but has not ruled out revisiting. As he grows and his range expands, the ambition of the stash will expand with him. This is not a goal he has articulated to Hotaru. It simply is.

Eating Everything
Rumble does not have a concept of inedible. He has a concept of "ate it" and "have not tried that yet," and he is working steadily through the second category. His digestive capabilities are extraordinary even by Bulette standards, likely enhanced by his primordial heritage, and he has not yet encountered something his body declined to process. He eats with purpose and without apparent favorites beyond sheer volume, though he has shown a particular enthusiasm for things with high mineral content, which is probably related to the gem interest and suggests his Primordial nature runs deeper than aesthetics.

Growing Into His Nature
A Primordial Bulette at full maturity is a creature of considerable power and a deep, geological presence that alters the environment around it. Rumble is nowhere near that yet, but the potential is already visible in the way the ground responds faintly to his mood and the way stone seems slightly more cooperative when he is near it. As he grows and cultivates, this connection to the earth will deepen into something far more significant. For now he simply exists within it, the way a river exists within its banks, shaped by something much larger than what is currently visible.

🪨 Primordial Beastbond Notice
Rumble is a Primordial Bulette beastbond who received pre-hatch cultivation, making him developmentally two stages ahead of his actual age. This means his instincts, territorial behaviors, and earth-affinity are already operating at a level far beyond what his size suggests. His telepathic communication with Hotaru is fully structured and clear, arriving as complete thoughts rather than emotional impressions, which is highly unusual for a beastbond this young. He should not be treated as a hatchling in terms of behavioral expectations. He will eat anything placed in front of him and several things that are not. His gem stash is private and any interference with it should be considered a serious miscalculation. As he grows, his connection to earth and stone will develop into abilities that are not yet fully understood even by those familiar with standard Bulette biology.
