Appearance
Hotaru possesses striking bronze skin and copper-colored hair that catches the light like burnished metal. His most distinctive features are the luminous tribal tattoos that cover parts of his body, glowing with a soft ethereal light, and his orange eyes that burn with an inner radiance. Standing at an impressive 6'3", his athletic frame reflects years of physical labor on the farm and his druidic connection to the natural world. His movements carry both grace and purpose, marking him as someone equally comfortable wielding weapons or tending crops.
Unique Characteristics
Hotaru is almost never seen without at least one firefly hovering near him, often two or three, drawn to his presence by his connection to nature and the glow of his tattoos. These luminescent companions seem to follow him wherever he goes, creating a subtle nimbus of soft light around him especially at night. His tribal markings pulse with greater intensity when he channels druidic magic or experiences strong emotions, serving as a visible indicator of his spiritual connection to the natural world.

Background & History
The Angel's Eternal Witness
Circles. Cycles. The beginning is the end is the beginning. The angel Ahotarus had witnessed countless beginnings and endings throughout eternity, fighting across the planes in the Heavens, sometimes in Hell where she even ruled for a time before returning to serve in the former. Yet one thing always called to her: the mortals of Xeres. She watched helplessly as every sun set simultaneously, witnessing all of time being erased, but like every circle, every cycle, it begins where it ends. Reincarnation is a curious thing, and she knew she had to return to the world because the Fearless would need her. She had ignored Xeres's call too many times before, but this time she would answer. Yet reincarnation rarely follows expected paths, especially when one's patron and creator no longer exists as either, and the Heavens would have their way with her rebirth.
Birth of the Firefly
A Wyvaran child was born into a small kobold village on an island shared with a tribe of Oni-blooded devilkins, becoming part of the Wyrmwhisper tribe, a community of green kobolds who worked the mines beneath the earth while maintaining an uneasy peace with their devilkin neighbors. The birth of a Wyvaran was always an auspicious event for the tribe, heralding the arrival of a new leader who would guide them into prosperity, as the tribe's wyvern blood had grown diluted over generations making such births exceedingly rare. This child's eyes glowed with an ethereal yellow light, earning him the name Hotaru after the fireflies that illuminated the island's nights, though from his earliest days he felt spiritually different, hearing the voices of Xeres and the Heavens while experiencing flashes of memories he had never lived.
Love on the Island
Young Hotaru chose to ignore his strange visions and focus on the world before him, which increasingly centered on Nultero, a beautiful red-skinned devilkin girl who was the chief's daughter. Their friendship blossomed naturally as he was the future leader of the Wyrmwhisper tribe and she the devilkin chief's daughter, with their relationship actively encouraged by both communities. They were betrothed to marry upon reaching their sixteenth year, marking adulthood in both cultures, and Hotaru's gift for gestural communication proved invaluable in building a deep connection with the mute girl. They shared everything: music, for which both showed remarkable talent; diving for mollusks in the clear waters; preparing wild boar for inter-village festivities, with one rarely seen without the other.
The Fall of Paradise
As their sixteenth birthdays approached and preparations for the joining of the two tribes were underway, darkness fell over the island when their volcano erupted, sending ash, fire, and smoke into the sky. Through this hellish veil emerged a great red wyrm, laying waste to everything in its path, while boats filled with red draconian warriors appeared from the sea bringing death to all they encountered. Hotaru and Nultero raced to save as many children and elders as they could, eventually reaching one of the tribe's voyaging vessels, but just as the ship reached capacity, Hotaru felt a sharp crack against his head. His last vision was of Nultero standing over him with a broken oar in hand as she pushed him and the vessel full of children into the current's embrace, sacrificing herself to ensure their escape.
Awakening to Truth
Hours later, he awoke in an ash-covered bed, drenched in sweat within a stone building he somehow recognized, and the visions crashed over him like a tidal wave as he realized he had lived this before, or had he? This time felt real and visceral, yet it had been "she" before, proving the Heavens cruel masters indeed as everything Ahotarus had constructed as memory in her previous existence had become his lived experience. Though he grieved deeply for his lost village and his first true love, purpose soon found him again as he must find the Fearless. As his angelic memories began to fade once more, surfacing only when needed to guide his path, Hotaru followed the voices of Xeres and the Heavens to join the Fearless, finding the camaraderie he had known in ages past.
The Mine and Rebirth
This brotherhood would see him through decades of battles, eventually leading to their defeat and imprisonment in a mine where their bodies withered and minds lay dormant as they endlessly worked the earth. But circles complete themselves, and the beginning is the end is the beginning. They awakened with their minds restored completely, albeit with unexpected passengers from souls who had died in those mines, finding themselves bound to new purpose and new struggles.
Gardener, Farmer, and Soon-to-be Father
Now, some years into their travels, Hotaru finds himself as a gardener and farmer on the Geodegazer Estate, tending to the land and ensuring the prosperity of his adopted tribe. He is engaged to marry Echo Nightsong, with their wedding planned for shortly before the birth of their child in mid-Harvestide. His role as protector and guide continues to define him, with all the residents of the Geodegazer estate as his family and tribe, his number one priority. Though there is no official Geas mandated by the Heavens anymore, there does not need to be, for he would defy the Heavens themselves to save anyone in the Geodegazer tribe.

Goals & Aspirations
Protecting and Guiding His Tribe
First and foremost, Hotaru sees himself as a protector and guide, with all the residents of the Geodegazer estate as his family and tribe being his number one priority. Though he is not a Goodberryn by blood, his passenger left a lasting mark on him, and as long as there is a Geodegazer, he must be there to support them. He would defy the Heavens themselves to save anyone in the Geodegazer tribe, a commitment that goes far beyond any official Geas. His dedication manifests in his daily work on the farm, his readiness to defend against threats, and his constant vigilance to ensure the wellbeing of every member of his adopted family.
Building Prosperity Through the Farm
Hotaru wants to keep the farm strong and plentiful, supplying everyone with food and drink so they can thrive rather than merely survive, with excess production either enriching the lives of villagers everywhere or funding the constant improvements the estate needs. His connection to nature through his druidic abilities gives him unique insights into cultivation and growth, allowing him to maximize the farm's output while maintaining harmony with the land. He takes pride in his work with his hands, finding satisfaction in the tangible results of his labor and the knowledge that his efforts directly contribute to his tribe's prosperity and security.
Atoning for Hedgewick and Earning the Heavens' Favor
Hotaru carries deep regret for his actions in Hedgewick, where in a moment of rage and grief he became everything he hated, taking 31 innocent lives in retribution for the abuse Sana suffered there. He strives to fulfill the conditions of the Geas the Heavens placed upon him to repay those stolen lives, but wants to go far beyond the bare minimum required. Having seen the Heavens at work firsthand, he knows they reward those who take the path of most resistance and make the greatest effort, not those who do merely what is required. This drives many of his decisions, as he deliberately chooses struggle and challenge to prove his worth and demonstrate his commitment to redemption.
Becoming the Fun, Happy Uncle
Despite his struggles with identity and his fear of missing life by always living for others, Hotaru hopes to be the fun, happy uncle to all the children of the estate, providing them with joy, guidance, and the kind of carefree moments that were stolen from him. He also hopes he can add to the family and tribe one day through his own children with Echo, though he is not very confident in his ability to do so given his constant self-doubt. His love of music, his connection to nature, and his gentle spirit with innocents make him naturally suited to this role, even as he battles his inner demons when the last light fades and the monsters he holds back during the day are free to attack.
