Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
Puff cannot be removed from the story. That is not a metaphor. The Frostfire Salamander endures through extremes that would destroy anything else, not by being the strongest thing in the room but by being the thing the room cannot get rid of. Puff's bloodline operates on that principle at a level so fundamental that it precedes memory, intention, and even death. His soul is cosmically anchored to the people and events that matter most, drawn back to them across distances, circumstances, and the resets of entire timelines with the same quiet, unremarkable certainty that a cat finds its way home.
He does not remember the previous cycles. He was given no deliberate transfer of memories. Nobody performed a ritual to carry him forward. He simply keeps showing up anyway, because something in the architecture of his soul refuses to be untethered from where he belongs, and where he belongs is exactly here, with exactly these people, in exactly the places where the most important things are about to happen.
This is why Arties has always felt like someone worth trusting immediately, even the first time he met her, in every timeline that has a first time. This is why Goodberry has always felt like home before he had any reason to call it that. The bloodline is not whispering directions to him. It is not a feeling he can identify or a nudge he can follow deliberately. It is simply the shape of his soul, which happens to be shaped like a fixed point in a cosmos that keeps trying to change. The Overfiend reset the world. Puff came back. Not heroically. Not through sacrifice or destiny or divine intervention. He just wandered in from the direction he always wanders in from and sat down next to the right people and that was that.
In the previous cycle his presence marked nearly every moment that preceded a shift in the group's direction, not because he caused those shifts but because the bloodline makes him a harbinger of them. He arrives. Things change. He does not notice either of these facts. The scale of this gift is high because it has already survived things that a bloodline should not be able to survive.
The Overfiend consumed gods. It imprisoned souls. It reset the fabric of the world across thirteen cycles. Puff Puddlefoot wandered back in anyway. He found the right tavern. He recognized the right faces. He stayed. He never explained why and nobody thought to ask. He would not have had an answer. He still does not. He is sitting somewhere in Goodberry right now, watching something from a comfortable height, completely unaware that he is the most cosmically resilient being anyone in this story has ever met, and if you told him so he would blink his ice-blue eyes at you, say that Puff does not know what you are talking about, and go back to watching whatever he was watching.
Physical Description
Puff is a black-furred catfolk with a tall, athletic build that he deliberately conceals beneath loose-fitting black clothing designed to make him appear unthreatening and easy to forget. His most striking feature is his shockingly intense ice-blue eyes that seem to pierce through shadows and see things others miss. He moves with natural grace and economy of motion, every gesture calculated to avoid drawing attention while maintaining readiness for swift action. His posture is deliberately understated, shoulders slightly hunched to minimize his impressive height, creating the impression of someone who prefers to remain unnoticed.
His striking ice-blue eyes are his most memorable feature, often the only detail people remember about him due to his otherwise deliberately forgettable appearance. His black fur is kept meticulously clean but never styled, maintaining a practical appearance that doesn't draw attention. Multiple hidden pockets and pouches are sewn into his clothing with such skill that they're nearly undetectable, each containing tools of his former trade or small mementos he can't bring himself to discard.
