Physical Description
Appearance
Maple is four years old, roughly two and a half feet of concentrated energy, and the first thing anyone notices about her is that she appears to have been designed by someone who could not choose between green and pink and ultimately decided the answer was both. Her scales are split between the two: vivid spring green on most of her body, bleeding into bright pink at her hands, feet, and the spines of her tail. Her hair, full, wavy, and entirely untamed, is the same combination, green layered with streaks of pink that catch whatever light is available and make the most of it. Then there are the eyes. Her left eye is a clear, bright green. Her right eye is a warm, vivid pink. The heterochromia is striking enough that it is usually the second thing people comment on, right after the overall effect of her. She is wearing, at any given time, an outfit that she has selected herself: currently a teal top laced in purple over a pink skirt and matching bloomer pants, with a belt and bright pink sneakers with green laces. There is a small smear of something on her shirt that may be dirt and may be plant matter and is definitely not coming out. She is grinning. She is almost always grinning.
Unique Characteristics
Maple's heterochromia, one green eye, one pink, is genuinely unusual even among kobolds, who already carry a wider range of coloration than most races. Combined with her green-and-pink scale split and matching hair, she is a child who is visually impossible to overlook, which is either a coincidence or the world's most accurate early statement of personality. She moves through spaces at a pace that suggests she has decided standing still is a form of waste. She has strong opinions about her clothing and has developed the ability to construct layered arguments for why a specific outfit is correct that exceed what most four-year-olds can manage. Small leaves still occasionally appear in her hair throughout the day, carried there by the same gentle ambient magic that follows her father. She has her own small patch of garden and a watering can she takes seriously. And she has, since a specific afternoon last year, a quality to her grin that was not there before, something that has been tested and did not break, and knows it.

Background & History
Spring's First Blessing
Maple was born on a bright spring morning during Thawbloom, when the world was awakening from winter's grip and new life was bursting forth everywhere. Her parents, Hecks and Raya, chose her name to reflect both the sweet syrup her mother loved and the vibrant green scales that covered their firstborn daughter from head to toe. From her very first moments, Maple displayed an unusual connection to the natural world around her; plants seemed to lean toward her when she passed, and small animals showed no fear of the tiny kobold child. This connection, combined with her father's druidic gifts, marked her as special even among the diverse residents of Goodberry.
Growing Up in Goodberry
Maple's earliest years have been spent in the magical settlement of Goodberry, where she has become a familiar and beloved sight toddling through the streets with leaves in her hair and dirt on her scales. She has the unique privilege of growing up surrounded by heroes, adventurers, and extraordinary individuals from countless races and backgrounds. While too young to understand the significance of living in a dimensional bubble that can move across the world, Maple has already developed an intuitive sense that her home is special and different. She knows many of the residents by name and fearlessly approaches even the most imposing figures, having learned early that Goodberry is a place of safety and acceptance.
Papa's Little Helper
From the moment Maple could walk, she has shadowed her father Hecks through the gardens and green spaces of Goodberry. Despite her young age and limited understanding, she attempts to help him tend plants, water seedlings, and care for the various herbs he uses in his alchemical work. Hecks has shown remarkable patience with his daughter's enthusiastic but often clumsy assistance, recognizing her genuine love for growing things. She has her own tiny watering can and a small patch of garden that Hecks designated as "Maple's special spot," where she plants seeds and watches with wonder as they grow. These quiet moments with her father, working in the soil and watching nature thrive, have become her favorite part of each day.
Music in the Tavern
Maple adores her mother Raya and frequently visits the tavern where her mother works, bringing joy and laughter to the patrons with her innocent presence. She has developed a love for music and often attempts to sing along with her mother, creating endearing if not entirely accurate renditions of popular tavern songs. The regular customers have grown fond of "Little Sprout," and several have taken to bringing her small gifts or treats when they visit. Raya tries to keep Maple out of the tavern during busy evening hours, but during the day, mother and daughter often share quiet moments together between customers, with Raya teaching Maple simple songs and stories from her own childhood.
The Word She Didn't Know
Maple started school at three and took to it the way she takes to most things: immediately, enthusiastically, and with complete confidence that it would go well. For a little while, it did. Then one afternoon, a child in her class said a word to her face that she had never heard before. Ugly. She did not know what it meant. She asked her mother that evening, and Raya told her, carefully, and watched Maple's face change in the way that faces do when something arrives that was not expected and cannot be sent back. She stopped going to school without the burlap sack. She wore it over her head, at school, at home, at the table, everywhere, so that nobody would see her crying, which she was doing more than she wanted anyone to know. Raya watched it happen. Hecks watched it happen. They were patient and gentle and very worried. It was Queen Arties who asked to speak with her, and sat with her, and told her something Maple has held onto ever since: that some people do not yet understand the things they are looking at. That failing to understand something is not the same as that thing being wrong. That different is not a problem in need of solving. It took time. But the sack came off. And the grin came back. And it has not gone away since, and something about it is different now, not softer, but deeper, the smile of a child who has met something hard and come through it carrying a thing she would not have had otherwise.
Becoming a Big Sister
Maple's world expanded dramatically with the arrival of her twin siblings, Maya and Elpis, then later, Pelin. The transition from being an only child to a big sister has been both exciting and challenging for the young kobold. While she adores her baby siblings and often tries to help care for them in her own small ways, she also struggles with no longer being the sole focus of her parents' attention. Maple has shown surprising gentleness with the twins, carefully patting their heads and bringing them leaves or flowers she thinks they might enjoy. However, she also experiences moments of frustration and jealousy, particularly when the twins need care during times she wants to play with her parents. Her parents are working to help her adjust to her new role, making sure she still receives individual attention while teaching her the joys and responsibilities of being a big sister.
Goals
Learning and Growing
At four, Maple's goals have quietly expanded from the purely practical to something with more shape. She wants to understand why plants grow the way they do and not just that they do. She wants to get better at school, not because she was told to, but because she has decided that school is her territory now and she intends to be good at it. She wants to find out what her eyes can each see that the other one can't, because she is fairly certain that is how it works and she is building a theory. She wants to grow tall enough to reach the second shelf in the kitchen without asking for help. Mostly she wants the same things she has always wanted: to be in the garden with her father, to hear her mother sing, to make things grow. She just wants them with more vocabulary now, and more conviction, and the specific confidence of someone who has been knocked down once and found out it was survivable.
Following Papa's Footsteps
Maple has developed a deep fascination with her father's work and dreams of becoming just like him when she grows up. While she doesn't yet understand concepts like alchemy or druidic magic, she knows that Papa makes plants grow big and strong, helps people feel better, and cares for all the green things in Goodberry. Her goal is to be helpful in the garden, to learn everything Papa knows about plants, and to someday be able to make sick plants healthy just like he does. This aspiration manifests in her constant shadowing of Hecks during his work, her careful attempts to water plants without making a mess, and her proud declarations that she is "Papa's best helper" in the garden.
Being a Good Big Sister
With the arrival of Maya, Elpis and now Pelin, Maple has taken on the new and complex role of big sister. While she doesn't fully understand what this means yet, she knows that her parents expect her to be gentle with the babies and to help take care of them. Her goal is to be the best big sister she can be, even when it's hard and she wants her parents' attention all to herself. She wants to teach her siblings everything she knows, show them all the best places to find pretty leaves, and protect them from anything scary. As she grows and matures, this role will likely become an increasingly important part of her identity, shaping how she views herself and her place within her family.

🌿 Development Notice
Maple Goodberryn is four years old, green and pink, loud about it, and no longer available to be discouraged by other people's opinions on the subject. She carries a druidic ambient connection inherited from her father that encourages plant growth and draws small animals to her without effort. Combined with her own apparently genuine attunement to growing things, she is worth watching as she matures. She has also, as of last year, demonstrated a resilience of spirit that exceeded expectations under conditions that would have broken older and larger individuals. She came out of it with better posture and a wider grin.
