Description
The Restoration Pools are located in a tranquil area of the Crystal Streams where natural springs emerge from deep underground to form a cascading series of interconnected basins. Goodberry's magic enhances these waters with potent cleansing properties, transforming the location into a healing sanctuary comparable to neither temple nor hospital. Five primary pools form the cascade, each fed by the upper pools and ultimately releasing their water back into the stream system. The flowing arrangement creates a natural progression for treatment while maintaining the area’s serene and harmonious atmosphere.
The Source Pool sits at the top of the cascade and serves as the heart of the system. Measuring twenty feet across and maintaining a depth of four feet, it holds water warmed by geothermal activity and illuminated by a faint blue white luminescence visible in dim light. Smooth river stones in gentle colors line its floor, creating shifting patterns beneath the clear surface. The water entering this pool carries the highest concentration of restorative magic, and attendants supervise it closely, assisting patients from stone seating areas positioned around the edge.
Below the Source Pool, the water descends over a natural waterfall into the Second Pool, a deeper basin used for treating severe diseases. Stone steps allow easy access for weakened patients, and floating platforms support reclining positions for long treatment sessions. Farther down the cascade, the Third and Fourth Pools treat lesser conditions or serve as recovery areas. Their waters remain strongly healing but are slightly diluted after flowing through the system. The Fifth Pool, broad and shallow in places, supports gentle exercise, child friendly treatment, and final recovery while acting as a buffer that returns water to its natural state before it reenters the stream.
The environment surrounding the pools is intentionally designed to enhance healing while preserving natural beauty. Living willow shelters form changing areas and protective stations near each pool. Stone paths connect the basins, allowing attendants to guide patients safely between treatment areas. Healing gardens filled with herbs such as lavender, chamomile, and sage grow around the perimeter, supporting both the senses and practical needs. Herbalists maintain these gardens, providing ingredients for teas and poultices that complement the pools’ restorative effects. Natural rock formations and boulders add privacy and act as windbreaks without disturbing the landscape’s organic flow.
Treatment in the Restoration Pools requires time and consistency. Patients immerse themselves daily, often for several hours, allowing the waters to slowly extract toxins and corruptive influences. Minor diseases clear within days, while serious or magical afflictions require weeks or even a month of treatment. Trained attendants monitor each patient, adjust their regimen, and maintain detailed records to track progress. The pools cannot mend physical injuries or undo permanent damage, but they excel at purifying the body of illness and poison. Water from the Source Pool can be carried away for temporary use, remaining potent for a single day. The pools have become a revered healing destination drawing visitors from distant lands, and strict rules preserve their sanctity by prohibiting violence, contamination, frivolous use, and disruptive behavior.
Benefits
The Restoration Pools provide powerful cleansing and restorative effects for diseases and poisons. A patient who spends at least 4 hours per day immersed in the pools can be cured of common diseases after 3 days of treatment, serious diseases after 1 week, and even magical diseases after 1 month of continuous daily treatment. Poisons are purged more quickly: minor poisons after 1 day of treatment, moderate poisons after 2 days, and severe or magical poisons after 3 days.
