Description
The Life Tree stands in the secluded heart of the Ancient Heart, an ancient oak nearly one hundred and twenty feet tall with a trunk twenty five feet wide. Goodberry's magic awakened immense reserves of dormant life energy within it through a lengthy ritual involving rare ingredients, positive energy, and continuous druidic focus. This transformation activated the tree's primordial power, allowing it to radiate healing energy independently once the ritual was complete. The tree’s bark now carries a soft luminescence that appears most clearly during dawn and dusk, and its seasonal changes display exceptional vibrancy that marks it as a living wellspring of vitality.
The area around the Life Tree reflects its tremendous influence. Within thirty feet of the trunk grows a lush carpet of warm, emerald moss dotted with tiny white flowers that bloom year round. Walking barefoot on this moss produces a sense of immediate wellbeing as the ground itself is saturated with life energy. Several of the tree’s roots rise above the earth to form natural seats where citizens rest, meditate, or seek comfort during illness. These roots feel warm and sometimes pulse faintly beneath one’s hands, reinforcing the sense that the tree carries a living heartbeat within its ancient wood.
The Life Tree enhances the growth of nearby plants and wildlife in visible and consistent ways. Wildflowers bloom in greater numbers and with more vivid colors, herbs develop larger leaves and stronger medicinal properties, and animals that dwell in the tree’s branches appear healthier and more energetic. Birds nest densely among the branches and sing almost continuously, their songs brightening the forest throughout the day. Even insects that live within the bark thrive unusually well, displaying vivid colors and longevity that suggest subtle benefits from prolonged proximity to the tree.
The tree’s healing influence extends to the settlement’s residents in gradual, cumulative ways. People who live within the Elderwood Grove for weeks or months begin to experience faster recovery from injuries and illness, slightly elevated energy levels, and improved overall health. These effects grow stronger over time as their bodies attune to the tree’s aura. After a full year of residence, citizens experience significantly enhanced natural healing, and after two years their bodies integrate fully with the tree’s energy. However, the benefits require continuous presence, fading completely within five days if a resident leaves the settlement and restarting from the beginning upon their return.
The Life Tree’s surroundings have become a sanctuary for meditation, healing, and spiritual renewal. Injured citizens rest beneath its branches to speed their recovery, elders find comfort against its warm roots, and new parents bring infants for blessings under its canopy. Strict guidelines protect the tree, banning fire, loud disturbances, and harmful actions near its base to preserve the peaceful atmosphere that supports its energy flow. Druids and healers study the tree closely, noting that it draws power simultaneously from its deep roots, sunlight through its canopy, Goodberry’s augmented environment, and an unknown natural force. The Life Tree symbolizes perfect harmony between magic and nature while strengthening the community that safeguards it.
Benefits
The Life Tree radiates powerful healing energy throughout the entire Elderwood Grove settlement. Citizens who have resided continuously in the settlement gain the fast healing ability based on their length of residence: Fast Healing 1 after 1 month, Fast Healing 2 after 6 months, Fast Healing 3 after 1 year, and Fast Healing 5 after 2 years. This effect functions continuously while the resident remains in the settlement. If a resident leaves the Elderwood Grove, they retain the fast healing benefit for 5 days before it fades completely. Upon returning to the settlement, they must begin the attuning process again from the beginning. The Life Tree also provides a +2 bonus to all Heal checks made within the settlement and causes all natural healing to occur at double the normal rate for bed rest. This structure generates 15 Prestige, reflecting the settlement's reputation as a place of miraculous healing and vitality.
