Description: Devilkin are simultaneously more and less than mortal, bearing the complex legacy of fiendish blood flowing through their veins. Their otherworldly heritage manifests in countless ways; one might appear nearly human save for small horns and oddly colored eyes, while another bears fangs, tiny wings, and the perpetual scent of brimstone. Some have barbed tails, others clawed fingers, and still others might possess skin with a faint reddish tint or eyes that glow with inner fire. No two devilkin look exactly alike, as their fiendish ancestry combines unpredictably with mortal blood. Despite their often unsettling appearance, devilkin possess the same capacity for choosing their own fate as any human, though the whispers of their dark heritage constantly test their resolve.
Society: Devilkin rarely form their own communities, instead living on the fringes of established societies where they were born or choose to settle. Most cultures view them with suspicion, fear, or outright hostility, seeing them as living curses or harbingers of misfortune. In cosmopolitan cities or regions where planar contact is common, devilkin might find greater acceptance, but even then they often face prejudice. They typically adopt the customs and mannerisms of their human parents or local culture, having few of their own kind to learn from. When devilkin do encounter others like themselves, the meetings are not always harmonious, their diverse forms and philosophies often lead to conflict rather than kinship. Only those who share similar bloodlines or manage to overcome their inherently selfish nature find true acceptance among their own kind.
Relations: Devilkin face significant prejudice from most races, who view them as tainted by evil or as living reminders of infernal corruption. Civilized peoples often shun or marginalize them, while more primitive cultures may fear them outright. However, they find unexpected kinship with other outcasts and mixed-heritage individuals. Half-elves, half-orcs, and aasimars often understand their struggle with dual nature and societal rejection. Humans, with their adaptability and varied perspectives, are most likely to judge devilkin as individuals rather than by their heritage. Dwarves respect those who prove themselves through deeds, while elves tend to maintain polite distance. The widespread assumption that devilkin are inherently evil creates barriers in most cultures, forcing many to work twice as hard to prove their worth.
