Physical Description

Velisara
Velisara, Acolyte of Arties
Appearance

Velisara is a tall and striking human woman of twenty-six with long pale gold hair that, depending on the light, reads almost silver, the kind of hair that seems to belong to someone decades older, though her face is entirely young. She carries herself with the serene posture of someone who has decided, deliberately, not to be in a hurry about anything. Her robes are layers of flowing white linen and sheer cloth, weighted with golden chains that drape across her waist and hips, catching the light of candles as she moves. A gilded halo crown rests upon her head, its chains threaded through her hair, and gold greaves rise up her calves in elegant scrollwork. Around her eyes she wears a delicate cloth blindfold, not worn out of blindness, but as a symbol of how her sight now works: what she perceives most clearly, she perceives with something that is not her eyes.

Unique Characteristics

She almost always carries an ornate golden astrolabe, turning it slowly in her hands during conversation as though it measures something the people around her cannot see. Despite the blindfold, she navigates spaces with confident ease, rarely hesitating, rarely misjudging distances. She spent her entire upbringing among the catfolk of Anice, and though she is human, some of their mannerisms settled into her without her noticing: she tends to go very still before she speaks, she moves almost soundlessly when she is not trying to announce herself, and she has an uncanny patience that most humans struggle to maintain. Her voice is low, steady, and unhurried. Those who speak with her frequently report feeling calmer by the end of the conversation than they were at the start.

I did not choose this path. The path chose me, and it was not subtle about the choosing.

I saw her face before I ever crossed a city gate. I knew who she was before she spoke a single word to me. Some things you do not need to be told.

I woke up facing a different direction. I have simply been walking that way ever since.

Background & History

A Human Life in Anice
Velisara was born and raised entirely in Anice, the city best known as the heartland of the catfolk. She is an exception there, a human child raised among a people with sharper senses, quieter footfalls, and a particular way of inhabiting space that most outsiders take years to understand. Her upbringing was warm and unremarkable in the best possible sense. She had neighbours who could hear her coming from three rooms away, friends who could follow a scent across a market square, and a community that valued patience, careful movement, and the ability to listen before speaking. Without noticing it, she absorbed all three. She grew up thinking this was simply how people were.

The Day the Tool Fell
She was twenty-five and doing nothing remarkable, walking a familiar street, thinking about nothing in particular, when a tool slipped from a worker's belt on the scaffolding above her and struck her on the head. By all accounts, she should not have survived. Those who reached her first were certain she would not. She was brought to the local hospital and did not wake for a week. The healers did what they could and waited. The catfolk neighbours who came to sit with her during those days later said that her breathing was the only reason they kept hope: too slow, but steady, steady, steady, like someone who had somewhere to be and was simply taking the long way around.

The Woman in the Dream
During the seven days she lay unconscious, Velisara was not absent. She was dreaming, deeply and continuously, of a woman she had never met. She could not have described her clearly after waking, the impression was more feeling than image, more presence than detail, but what she retained was absolute certainty: this was a healer, a figure of genuine goodness, someone the Heavens pointed toward the way a compass points north. She did not feel she had been visited so much as redirected. Like something in her had been slightly rotated while she slept, and when she woke the world was the same but she was facing a different direction.

Following the Rumors
Velisara recovered more fully than her healers had expected, though something had shifted in her that she could not account for. She began asking quietly about healers, great ones, legendary ones, those whose reputation had spread far enough to travel by rumor from city to city. The same name kept returning: Arties, in a place called Goodberry. She did not rush. She listened to the rumors for months, gathering a clearer picture of the woman who appeared in them, her kindness, her stubbornness, her refusal to turn people away, the city she had built out of nothing and filled with those who had nowhere else to go. The more she learned, the more certain she became. This was the face from the dream.

Arrival in Goodberry
She arrived in Goodberry without announcement and without any particular plan beyond seeing the city with her own eyes. She did not need a plan. The moment she laid eyes on Arties Geodegazer-Shadowbane, she recognized her immediately and completely, the same recognition you feel when someone calls your name in a crowd and you turn before you have processed the sound. She introduced herself simply, told Arties what had happened to her, what she had seen, and what she believed it meant. She was not asking for permission to stay. She was explaining why she already knew she would. The Church of Arties welcomed her, and she joined without hesitation.

Life in the Church
Velisara has settled into Goodberry with the thoroughness of someone who has been waiting for exactly this place without knowing what it was called. She serves the Church of Arties with devotion and without showmanship, offering what she can to those who come to the church in need, prayer, presence, quiet healing, and the particular gift she has discovered in herself since the accident: an oracle's instinct, an attunement to something beyond the visible that she cannot fully explain but has learned to trust. She does not speak of it often. She simply uses it, steadily and carefully, in the service of others.

Goals & Aspirations

To Serve the Church Faithfully
Velisara's most immediate and consistent goal is simply to be useful to the Church of Arties and to the people of Goodberry who come through its doors. She does not seek recognition or advancement within the church's structure. What she wants is to be there, reliably, when someone needs the particular thing she can offer: patience, healing, and a quality of attention that most people cannot maintain for longer than a few minutes. She considers this purpose enough, and has no intention of outgrowing it.

To Understand and Develop Her Oracle Gifts
The abilities that began awakening after her accident are still new to her, still surprising in their edges and silences. She is learning, carefully and without impatience, what she is capable of and what it costs her. She does not pursue this out of ambition but out of a practical understanding that a gift used poorly is a gift wasted, and whatever the Heavens redirected her toward, she does not intend to meet it half-prepared. She seeks knowledge of her abilities the same way she seeks everything: quietly, consistently, over time.

To Understand Why
The deeper question she has not yet found the answer to is the one she circles back to in prayer more often than any other: why her? A human woman from Anice, unremarkable in every way she can account for, is struck by a falling tool and wakes up changed, pointed toward a specific woman in a specific city by something she cannot name. She is not frightened by the question. She holds it the way you hold something fragile, carefully, without gripping too hard, and trusts that eventually the answer will make itself known. She has learned to be patient about that kind of thing. She had a week of practice.

ATTENTION!
Do not let the robes and the quiet voice fool you. Velisara is a priestess and she will tell you so herself, but she is also an Oracle, and those are not the same thing. The gifts that surfaced after her near-death experience give her an attunement to healing, support, and divine power that goes well beyond any standard religious training. Goodberry is a city that tolerates no violence, and Velisara fits that code perfectly: she will not raise a hand against you. She does not need to. In a crisis, her oracle abilities make her one of the most potent support presences in the city, capable of shielding, bolstering, and sustaining allies in ways that can turn the tide of a situation before a single blow is struck. She has simply chosen to use that power at candle-lit prayer services and by the bedsides of the sick. For now.
