Tenya Veyth
Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
Tenya's hair braids itself. Not quickly, not dramatically, but over the course of an evening or a night of rest it works its own patterns according to rules nobody has ever been able to read, patterns drawn from a civilization so thoroughly lost that no living scholar recognizes the symbols it produces. She cannot control this and has stopped trying. What she discovered, after years of careful attention, is that the pattern her hair settles into each morning is a legible record of the spiritual activity she encountered while sleeping, every restless spirit that passed through her vicinity, every unresolved thread she unconsciously registered, rendered in knotwork and braid that she can now partially interpret. The Janus Owlbear guards thresholds, and Tenya exists perpetually at one: between life and death, between her own identity and Velara's, between the material world and the spirit realm. Her hair is the record of everything that crossed that threshold while she wasn't consciously watching. As a secondary expression, any spirit she is attempting to communicate with that chooses to resist her perceives her braids as markings of genuine divine authority from their own tradition, whatever that tradition happens to be. She has never understood why spirits who should have no reason to trust her tend to cooperate anyway. She assumed it was her manner. It is partly her manner. It is also the braids telling them, in a language older than the civilization that created her, that she has the right to ask.
Physical Description
Tenya's skin resembles polished turquoise stone with delicate golden veining that traces beneath the surface like captured lightning. Her obsidian-black hair falls to her waist in intricate braids following patterns from a civilization lost to time. Her eyes are molten gold, reflecting light like heated metal, and when she speaks, there's always a faint echo as if someone else whispers alongside her words. She moves with deliberate grace, never rushed, and carries herself with the bearing of someone who has endured great suffering with dignity. Standing at 6'1", she commands attention through presence rather than force.
The golden veins beneath her skin pulse faintly when she's deeply emotional or using her divine abilities. She constantly carries the scent of sandalwood and rain on stone, regardless of weather or location. Her silvered shield is etched with ancient funerary prayers in multiple dead languages, and the metal seems to hum softly in the presence of undead or restless spirits. When experiencing temporal displacement episodes, her golden eyes briefly flicker with different colors, sometimes brown, sometimes green, echoing the eyes of the mortal she was meant to replace.
