Tansy Reedwalker
Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
This Bloodline ability has not yet been unveiled to you.
Physical Description
Tansy Reedwalker is thirty-six years old, three feet and nine inches, and built with the solid, low-to-the-ground density of a halfling who has spent most of her adult life doing physical work in difficult conditions. Her hair is a warm auburn-copper, cut short and slightly unstyled, the length that happens when you keep cutting it for practicality until you realize it looks fine and then stop thinking about it. Her eyes are a clear grey-blue with flecks of green, and she has freckles across her nose and cheeks in the specific distribution of someone who spent a childhood outdoors in marsh light.
She wears a fitted teal quilted coat over practical layered clothing, brown leather pants, and fur-cuffed halfling boots, the fur a nod to Brackenwall tradition, the boots worn to exactly the right amount of softness for field work. Her pauldrons are dark, well-used leather. Green-set studs at the gauntlets are the one concession to ornament on an otherwise purely functional kit. Wrapped at her neck is a green scarf that has been around long enough to qualify as a permanent feature.
She carries a short arming sword at her hip, practical, road-worn, held in the image at a casual shoulder rest that communicates she knows what to do with it and isn't particularly worried about needing to. Her boots are muddy. They are usually muddy. She stopped noticing this somewhere around age nineteen.
Personality & Temperament
Tansy Reedwalker is the specific kind of person that comes out of a childhood spent wanting to leave somewhere and an adulthood spent moving through the world learning what she was capable of. She is not restless, she is curious, which is different. Restless people move because staying is uncomfortable. Curious people move because the next place has something in it worth understanding. She has been both at different points and knows the difference now.
She is practical in the engineering sense: she looks at a problem and asks what it actually needs, not what a conventional solution looks like. This applies to people as much as to buildings. She doesn't offer help that isn't useful, doesn't give advice she hasn't thought through, and doesn't pretend a structure is sound when she can see the load-bearing issue. She will tell you what she sees. She assumes you wanted to know, because why would you not want to know.
- Genuinely accomplished as both fighter and engineer
- Adaptable: guard, student, and engineer without drama
- Curious about people the way she studies buildings
- Quiet, dry humor that only attentive people catch
- Shows care in concrete ways, not sentimental ones
- Comfortable in wet, narrow terrain from her swamp roots
- Engineer's instinct to point out flaws reads as critical
- Hides mild hero-worship for Verdant Hold's defenders
- Left Brackenwall with unprocessed feelings about home
- Impatient with inefficient plans she could fix
- Uneasy without a current project to fix
The Pachydan have a saying: the building that looks strong is often compensating for the wall that isn't. I think about that more often than I should about situations that have nothing to do with buildings.
I stayed in Verdant Hold longer than the contract required. I told myself it was for the research. It was also because I found people who'd done something remarkable and I wanted to understand how they became people who could do that. I'm still working on the answer.
Goodberry hasn't handed me a project yet. Give it a week. I've never met a city that didn't have a wall worth looking at twice.
- A structural problem with a non-obvious solution
- Competent people who don't need to announce their competence
- Wet terrain, comfortable in it without performing
- The specific smell of Duntillis stone in the morning
- Discussing Verdant Hold's heroes in a faux-academic tone
- Good maps; she annotates them with strong opinions
- Decoration that undermines structural integrity
- Being underestimated for being a halfling
- People who fix things wrong and don't know it
- Brackenwall, and the small horizon it represented
- Not having a current project
