Sylvaine Valecourt
Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
This Bloodline ability has not yet been unveiled to you.
Physical Description
Sylvaine is tall and athletic in the way of someone who has been training since childhood and has never stopped, with long blonde hair she keeps loosely swept back and secured with a dark feather pin that she considers her one reliable aesthetic choice. Her eyes are a warm brown that sit at an angle somewhere between elven and human, and they have a quality of assessment in them even when nothing else about her face suggests she is doing it. She dresses for function without being entirely indifferent to presentation: ornate half-plate over a cream silk underblouse, a deep red skirt cut for movement, tall laced boots with white stockings beneath them. The ensemble is expensive, a fact she tries not to draw attention to given that her current financial situation does not match it.
In a duel, she becomes a different kind of object in the room. The brightness she carries in conversation narrows into something single-pointed and very still, and the rapier stops looking like something she is holding and starts looking like part of her. She has a habit, when a fight is clearly won, of turning her head very slightly to the side and letting her eyes go a little distant, as if she is already thinking about something else. Opponents typically find this deeply upsetting. She is aware of this and has not changed the habit.

- Why she left House Valecourt is buried, met with silence
I have won forty-one formal duels in three years. I have lost zero. I am telling you this not to intimidate you but because I find it genuinely difficult to stop saying it.
The man had a longsword, thirty pounds on me, and about six years of training. He had a lot going for him. He just also had his right wrist where I needed it to be.
I do not miss home. I miss the food. That is a very different thing and I will not be making the mistake of confusing them again.
- A well-matched opponent who makes her actually think
- The beach at Rokoura, which is genuinely excellent
- Fine food, which she can't currently afford
- Crowds watching her work; she performs for them
- Teaching, it turns out, which came as a surprise
- People who mistake confidence for arrogance
- Questions about her family
- Losing, theoretically; this has not happened yet
- The north, which she intends to put far behind her
- Being underestimated, which she uses to her advantage
