Olav Winterstone
Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
This Bloodline ability has not yet been unveiled to you.
Physical Description
Olav wears a magnificent, heavily braided beard that falls well past his chest, threaded through with silver and bronze rings and small carved charms he's picked up over decades of trading and travel, each one with a story attached that he is only too happy to tell. His hair is kept in the same style, long and elaborately plaited, and his broad, weathered face carries the permanent good humor of a man who has genuinely enjoyed almost every year of his life. He favors a well-worn leather vest over simple homespun, with a trader's satchel he has never quite stopped carrying, still stocked out of habit with small goods, herbs, and whatever produce he's picked up that day.
Olav's beard rings are not decorative in the way most outsiders assume; each was traded for, won in a bet, or gifted by someone whose name he can still recall without hesitation, and he treats the collection as a physical ledger of the friendships and deals of his merchant years. He drinks exclusively ale, as a matter of firm and cheerfully argued principle, and will hold forth at length on the character flaws of wine drinkers to anyone who sits still long enough to listen.
Personality
- Endlessly generous host, first to fill an empty plate
- Remembers every good story he's ever been told
- Judges no one, having tried nearly every trade himself
- Steady, shrewd instincts left over from years of trading
- Devoted, uncomplicated love for his wife and their land
- Drinks more ale than is strictly wise, most nights
- Terrible at saying no to a friend who needs a favor
- Wanders off-topic mid-story and rarely finds his way back
- Dismissive of problems food or drink can't fix
- Stubbornly refuses wine and spirits on principle
I have sold spice, stone, silk, and one very confused pig to a man who swore he'd ordered a goat. Every trade taught me the same lesson: people only really lie to you about money. Feed them well enough and they'll tell you the truth about everything else.
Wine is for people who want you to notice how much they paid for it. Ale is for people who want to talk to you. I have never once trusted a man who orders wine at a farmhouse table.
Tallah asked me once why I still carry the trader's bag when I haven't sold a thing in two years. I told her a man doesn't stop being who he is just because he's found something better to do with his days.
- A full table and a fuller tankard of ale

- Meals rushed for the sake of getting back to work
- People who won't tell you the real story behind something
- Empty chairs at a full table
