Physical Description

Kaelith Riverstone portrait
Kaelith Riverstone, Silmarithil

The first thing people notice are the markings: scattered patches of deep forest green across her cheeks, jaw, shoulders, and arms, irregular in shape and slightly iridescent, catching light the way a leaf catches light rather than the way skin does. They are not paint and they do not wash off, and they have been with her since she was born. Most people assume she is half-dryad. She does not work very hard to correct this. The actual source is her Oread lineage, the blood of earth-touched ancestors, manifesting in her not as stone or crystal but as something older and softer: the green that lives in stone when water and time and light have been at it long enough.

Her skin is a warm golden-tan, her hair a mix of light brown and sun-bleached blonde worn in thick braids and loose locs decorated with small charms, beads, and whatever bits of natural beauty caught her eye that morning. Her eyes are a clear amber-gold that carries the quality of sunlight through shallow water. She is decorated: layered necklaces with stone and metal pendants, gold and green bands spiraling up both forearms, small rings on several fingers. None of it is for status. It is the accumulation of things she found beautiful and decided to carry with her, which is more or less her philosophy applied to jewelry.

She is always barefoot. This is not an aesthetic choice, or not only an aesthetic choice. She says the ground speaks to her differently when there is nothing between her and it, and everyone who has walked with her long enough has noticed that the path behind her is slightly greener than the path ahead. Flowers grow thicker near where she has been sitting. Moss repairs itself in her footprints. She finds this entirely unremarkable and is mildly puzzled that other people find it worth discussing.

  • Softens hard truths without dulling their clarity
  • Makes people feel fully seen with her attention
  • Carries deep, unforced patience in all things
  • Holds her beliefs gently, without pushing them
  • Genuinely happy for others' happiness, no envy
Challenging Traits
  • Moves at a measured pace even when urgency is needed

  • Refusing the label "druid" can cost her credibility

"People ask where I'm from. I'm from Xeres. The whole place. I've spent time with most of it."

"I'm not a druid. Druids have orders and titles and opinions about the correct way to stand in a grove. I'm just someone who listens when the ground talks."

"The flowers don't care what city they're in. Neither do I, most days."

Background & History

From Xeres
When people ask where she is from, she says Xeres, and she means it completely. She was not born in a city she wishes to name, or raised in one place long enough for it to claim her. What she knows is that she has always moved, and that the moving has always felt like rightness rather than restlessness. She grew up understanding that she belonged to the land more specifically than she belonged to any settlement on it, a belief she formed before she had the language for it and has since found she cannot argue herself out of even when she tries. Her Oread blood comes through somewhere in the lineage, she does not know how far back, and whatever quality it carries in her manifested early as the green on her skin, and later as the way the world around her grows toward her like a plant toward sun.

The Listening
She learned what she could do before she had a name for it. Sitting in a clearing and watching the grass come in thicker around her. Touching a sick-looking tree and finding it improved by morning. She did not decide to develop these abilities; they developed alongside her the way a limb develops, which is to say she did not choose them and is not sure choice would have produced anything different. She does not practice. She pays attention. This distinction is important to her in ways she can explain clearly but that other people often receive as evasion. She is not a druid. Druids study the language of nature. She simply speaks it natively, which is a different thing, and no title has ever fit her that wasn't also slightly wrong.

The Spirit of Xeres
She believes, not metaphorically, not as a useful framework, but as a plain fact of her experience, that Xeres has a spirit. That the land is alive in the way a person is alive: aware, feeling, capable of preference. She has felt this in different places differently, the way you feel a person's mood differently depending on where they are and what is happening to them. There are places in Xeres she has been where the spirit felt joyful. There are places she has been where it felt like grief. She does not think this is her imagination and she does not feel the need to convince anyone. What she does believe is that her connection to this spirit is the source of what she can do, and that living in places where the spirit is healthy and unmolested is necessary for her in the way food is necessary for most people.

Silmarithil
She came to Silmarithil because it felt right, which is the same reason she goes anywhere, and which she is aware is not a satisfying explanation. What she can say is that the land around Silmarithil is healthy, genuinely, distinctly healthy, the kind of healthy that comes from people who have been tending it with care for long enough that the ground has started to participate in its own wellbeing. She felt it from some distance away, the way you feel a warm room before you walk into it. She wanted to be somewhere unmolested by the kind of ambition that strips land bare for purposes the land did not consent to. Here, she thinks, is such a place. She has been barefoot in the fields at dawn every morning since she arrived, and the flowers along her usual route have gotten considerably more extravagant. She considers this a good sign.

Goals & Aspirations

Being Here
She does not have large ambitions in the architectural sense that other people's ambitions have. She would like to be fully present in the place she is, which sounds simple and is not. She wants to tend the things around her, the field at the edge of town that has been looking tired, the patch of garden behind the inn that wants more attention than it is getting, the old tree near the northern road that has something going on with its roots. None of this is dramatic. All of it is real. She does not need the work to be noticed or remembered. She just needs it to be done, because the land here is worth taking care of and she is here and she can do it.

Understanding the Spirit
She has felt the spirit of Xeres her whole life and she understands it the way you understand a language you grew up speaking: fluently, with feeling, but without a complete account of the grammar. There are things she feels from the land that she cannot fully interpret yet. There are places she has been where the spirit felt like it was trying to tell her something specific and she could not hear it clearly. She would like to hear it clearly. She would like to understand what she is connected to at a level beyond intuition. This is not a project she has a timeline for. It is the way some people feel about understanding love, or history, or themselves: they will work at it for as long as they are alive and expect to keep finding more.

Finding Roots
She has moved her whole life and genuinely believes that was right. She also suspects, and this is a newer belief, still tender, that there may be a place she is supposed to stay. Not forever, maybe, but for long enough to matter. Silmarithil is the first place that has felt, when she walks through it, less like somewhere she is passing through and more like somewhere she is arriving. She is not announcing this to anyone. She is just noticing it, the way you notice when the direction you have been walking stops feeling like away and starts feeling like toward.

ATTENTION!
Kaelith Riverstone is E-Grade and carries no trained combat capability. Her nature magic is entirely passive and ambient: plants grow thicker and healthier in her vicinity, flora in poor condition improves with her presence, and vegetation in her footprints repairs itself over time. Critically, her ambient field responds to her emotional state, if she is genuinely distressed or frightened (which is rare), vegetation in the area will wilt noticeably. She does not identify as a druid and has no druidic training, but the practical effects of her presence on plant life are real and consistent. The source of her Oread lineage is untraced; she does not know how far back it runs. She believes her abilities come from her connection to the spirit of Xeres rather than from the Oread blood itself, and this is a distinction she holds with conviction. She presents no threat. She is, however, an exceptionally reliable indicator of land health, her comfort and the behavior of vegetation around her can serve as a practical gauge of whether an area of land has been damaged, corrupted, or is thriving. In Silmarithil's fields, she is already having a measurable effect.
