Physical Description

Eilistraenya Aloshawn
Eilistraenya Aloshawn, The Arrow Princess
Appearance

Eilistraenya is tall for a wood elf, standing at five foot nine with a build that is lean but unmistakably powerful, the body of someone who has been at war, not training for it. Her hair is a striking silver-white, worn partly braided back from her face and left flowing loose behind, a common style among Gelderai's warrior class that keeps hair clear of the bow arm without sacrificing the length that signifies rank. Her eyes are a cool sage green, sharp and evaluating in the way of someone who has spent years scanning treelines for things that want to kill her. Her skin is fair with warm undertones that deepen across her forearms and hands from sun exposure, and bears a scattering of faint scars along her left arm from undead that have gotten closer than she prefers to admit. She wears armor of layered and fitted leaf-worked leather backed with dark iron pauldrons, practical, field-tested, and worn with the comfort of someone who sleeps in it. A longbow of dark hardwood is almost always present across her back, and her quiver is never less than half full. At D-grade, her beauty has crossed from merely striking into something that stops conversation in rooms, though she seems to find this more inconvenient than useful.

Unique Characteristics

The D-grade transition was recent enough, less than six months ago, that Eilis occasionally catches people's reactions and still finds them faintly startling. She hasn't fully adjusted to the attention. More notably, she carries herself with a stillness that belongs to experienced hunters: she doesn't fidget, she doesn't pace, and in unfamiliar environments she tends to position herself with a wall at her back and a clear line to the door before she relaxes even slightly. Her hands are always doing something, checking the tension on a bowstring, restoring an arrowhead, running a thumb along a fletching. When nothing needs maintaining, she folds them. She doesn't gesticulate when she speaks. She has the particular quiet economy of motion that comes from years of moving through forest without making sound, and it makes her presence in built spaces feel subtly out of place, like a hawk sitting on a table. She bears a small silver torc around her throat, the mark of the Aloshawn family's royal line, which she has never once removed in living memory.

I have held this line for six months without relief. Whatever you came to say, make it worth my time.

I didn't come here because I wanted to. I came because something in me that I do not fully understand decided I had no choice. I'd appreciate it if no one made that into a conversation.

My brother told me what this place is. What you all are. I'm still deciding what to do with that information.

Likes
  • Open skies and forest canopy, the feeling of space overhead
  • Mornings before anyone else is awake
  • A clean shot at a long distance

Background & History

Princess of Gelderai
Eilistraenya was born second in the Aloshawn royal line of Gelderai, the ancient wood elf kingdom nestled in the vast forests northwest of Goodberry. Where her brother Teoric inherited the family's quieter, administrative intelligence, Eilis came into the world moving, and has never really stopped. From childhood she was drawn to the outer reaches of the forest, to the patrol routes and the scout reports and the places where the tree line met something unknown. She was given formal archery training as a matter of royal obligation. She exceeded her instructors within two years and continued training herself for another decade after they ran out of things to teach her. Combat for Eilis was never sport. It was language. It was the thing that made the most sense to her in a world that was often otherwise complicated.

The Undead Incursion
The undead crisis that has consumed much of the continent's underdark and surrounding regions reached Gelderai's borders approximately eight months ago. The incursions began small, scouts reporting animated dead in the deep forest, small groups easily handled. Within two months the scale had shifted dramatically. What had been isolated encounters became coordinated waves, hordes pressing against the forest's southern and eastern boundaries with the grim, tireless patience of things that do not need to sleep or eat or feel fear. Gelderai's king mobilized the family's combat forces and appointed Eilis, already the most capable fighter the royal line had produced in two generations, as head combatant. She has held that post for six months without meaningful rest, organizing the defensive lines, personally leading engagements when the waves grow heavy, and keeping the forest's borders intact through will and precision and an absolute refusal to cede ground. The toll is visible if you know how to look for it. She carries it well.

Crossing the Threshold, D Grade
The transition to D-grade happened somewhere in the middle of the sixth month, during a particularly brutal engagement near the eastern tree line. Eilis herself cannot tell you exactly when, she was too busy. The change announced itself afterward, in the stillness following a battle, as a profound shift in how the world around her felt. Sharper. Wider. The exhaustion she had been running on for weeks didn't disappear, but her capacity expanded beneath it. Her shots, already formidable, became something categorically different. The D-grade transition for a wood elf of her bloodline is not subtle: speed, precision, and sensory acuity all advance simultaneously, and those who fight alongside her have noticed. Her enemies notice it first. At D-grade, she is the most powerful combatant her family has fielded in recorded Gelderai history, a fact she is aware of and finds less satisfying than she expected, largely because the undead keep coming regardless.

The Compulsion
She cannot explain it in terms that satisfy her own sense of logic. It began as a feeling, a persistent, low pull, the way an untreated wound makes itself known in the background of everything. It grew over weeks into something she could not ignore: an aching biological urgency that had no rational cause and no rational remedy, paired with an absolute certainty that she carries like an instinct rather than a deduction. She knows it will be a girl. She does not know how she knows this. She does not know whether the source of this compulsion is the Heavens, pressing destiny into her blood, or something older and darker using the same channel. Both possibilities unsettle her for different reasons. The Heavens demanding this suggests the child is meant for something significant enough to require the intervention of cosmic law. The Void suggesting it means the same, with worse implications about what that significance might serve. Either way, when Teoric wrote to her about what was happening in Goodberry, about the people there, about their history, about a man named Karthos living with a time-displaced grandson, the compulsion snapped into focus like a bowstring finding the right tension. She left the command of Gelderai's defense to her second and came south. She does not feel good about this decision. She made it anyway.

What She Knows About the Previous Cycle
Eilis has no memory of a previous life, she has never experienced the echo-dreams that afflict Teoric or the strange familiarity that overwhelms some of the others in Goodberry's orbit. To her, Karthos Taringa is a stranger. A stranger her brother has described in careful, significant terms. A stranger around whom the entire shape of the cosmic pull appears to center. She is unaware that in some other iteration of history, this man was her husband. She is unaware they had children. She is unaware that one of those children went on to be a hero. And she is unaware that the a daughter was taken by a demon and became something terrible.

The Complication
He is married. She knew this before she arrived. Teoric told her directly, because Teoric is precise and because he knew she would need to know. Karthos has a wife, Aroha, by all accounts someone worth respecting, and children, and a grandson from another timeline living under his roof. Eilis arrived in Goodberry carrying a cosmic imperative she did not ask for, pointed at a man who has built a life that does not include her, and she is doing her level best to be a person of integrity about it. Whether she succeeds at this is one of the more open questions of the current moment. She has not yet decided how to introduce herself.
🎯

Goals

Understanding the Compulsion Before Acting On It
Eilis is not the sort of person who acts blindly on something she doesn't understand, and she is not about to start with something this consequential. Before she makes any decision that affects another person's life, and specifically the life of a man with an existing family, she wants to understand the source of what is pushing her. Is this the Heavens requiring a specific child for specific purposes? Is this the Void seeding a repeat of Lithania's story? Is it something else entirely that neither framework covers? She has no ability to answer these questions alone. Finding people in Goodberry who might be able to help her answer them, whether through magic, history, or something resembling wisdom, is her first priority, before anything else.

Holding the Line in Gelderai Remotely
She left her post. The decision was necessary; the guilt is present regardless. Her second is capable, and she has established protocols and defensive positions that should hold, but the undead do not stop simply because she's elsewhere, and the incursions near Gelderai's borders are not resolved. A significant part of her attention remains fixed north. She is looking for any means by which she can contribute to Gelderai's defense from a distance, whether through resources, alliances, information, or the simple goal of understanding why the undead are massing at all and what might stop them. If Goodberry's people have fought the undead crisis in any capacity, she wants to know what they know.

Finding Her Footing in a Place She Didn't Choose to Be
Goodberry is strange to her. The people carry history she doesn't share, echoes of previous lives, memories of cycles, relationships with versions of themselves that existed before this one. She is an outsider to all of it. She arrived because of a pull she can't control, not because she belongs here. Establishing herself as something other than a complication, as someone useful, with something to offer that isn't wrapped up in the cosmic tangle of why she arrived, matters to her sense of dignity. She is a D-grade combat specialist who has spent six months fighting an undead siege. If that doesn't make her useful to someone here, she doesn't know what would.
