Chatterwind
Basic Information
Bloodline Ability
Roughly an hour before rain arrives, Chatterwind knows. Not from reading clouds or feeling the wind or any skill a trainer could have given her. Something in her fur simply informs her, the same way a body knows it is cold before the mind has finished forming the thought.
She has always assumed this was a cat thing. It is not a cat thing. It is the Stormrider Pegasus in her blood, expressing its weather affinity at the absolute minimum volume a bloodline can manage, which is to say just loud enough to keep her dry.
For a courier who lists heavy rain as one of her least favorite things in the world, this is more useful than it sounds. She has never been caught badly exposed in a downpour she did not have some warning of. She always finds shelter just before the roads turn to mud. She always knows which warm sunny patch in a meadow is about to receive another hour of good light, which is why her naps are legendarily good and her fellow couriers have started following her lead when she suddenly detours toward a particular hillside with a pleased look on her face.
The second expression of this gift is so faint that nobody, including Chatterwind, has ever identified it as anything. People are simply slightly more pleased to see her arrive than they can account for. Not dramatically, not memorably, just a small lift, a sense that something good has shown up along with the message. Recipients tip a little more generously than the delivery warranted. Gate guards wave her through with slightly less fuss than usual. Dogs that should bark at strangers give her a curious sniff and go back to sleep. The Stormrider Pegasus is a bringer of renewal and hope, and some faint trace of that quality apparently hitched a ride. It has never once been useful in a meaningful way. It has made her life, in aggregate, about five percent more pleasant, which is honestly a fine thing to have.
Physical Description
Chatterwind is a lean, athletic catfolk whose every movement speaks of practiced efficiency and natural grace. Her sleek gray fur is marked by subtle dark stripes that seem to shift and flow as she moves, creating an almost hypnotic pattern that aids in her natural ability to blend into shadows. Her build is perfectly suited for her profession, compact yet powerful, with the kind of wiry strength that comes from years of traversing difficult terrain at speed. Her striking amber eyes seem to catch even the faintest light, giving her an almost supernatural awareness of her surroundings. Her movements are quick and precise, never wasted, as if every gesture has been calculated for maximum efficiency.
A distinctive notched left ear serves as a permanent reminder of a close encounter with a trained hunting bird during one of her most dangerous deliveries. Her paw pads are unusually large and soft, allowing for nearly silent movement across even the most challenging terrain. Her fur has a peculiar quality that seems to naturally repel dust and debris, keeping her looking remarkably clean even after days of travel through harsh conditions. She has an unconscious habit of twitching her ears in specific patterns when calculating distances or directions, and her tail moves in subtle ways that experienced couriers have learned to read as indicators of route difficulty or danger levels.
