Honey Glades II

Honey Glades II

Prerequisite: None
An upgrade for the dimensional expansion.

Description

Building upon the successful foundational colonies, the second phase of the Honey Glades extends the network of bee habitats to encompass additional sun-dappled clearings throughout the Elderwood Grove. New hives are strategically positioned near specific plant communities to produce specialty honeys: some hives nestle near the herb gardens where lavender and thyme bloom in profusion, others are placed among stands of linden trees whose basswood blossoms produce exceptionally aromatic nectar, and still others occupy clearings where late-season flowers like goldenrod and asters provide robust autumn nectar flows. The addition of two more Hive Tenders allows the team to manage these expanded colonies with the same careful attention as the original glades.

The dimensional magic of the grove intensifies across the expanded network, creating truly extraordinary conditions for honey production. Bee colonies now produce harvestable honey stores every three to four weeks rather than once or twice per season, as if time moves differently for them within the grove's boundaries. This means each strong colony can be harvested ten to twelve times per year, yielding remarkable amounts of honey without stressing the bees. The accelerated bloom cycles ensure nectar sources are available almost continuously, allowing the bees to work productively throughout extended seasons that feel endless compared to outside apiaries.

The honey library expands dramatically with new varieties. Lavender honey from the herb garden hives is pale and fragrant, prized for its calming properties and delicate floral notes. Basswood honey from the linden groves is water-white to extra-light amber with a distinctive strong flavor and hints of mint. Late season honey from goldenrod and asters is darker and more robust, with a bold character perfect for winter consumption and medicinal preparations. Each variety is carefully harvested, extracted, and stored separately, with detailed labels noting the primary nectar source, harvest date, and the specific glade of origin.

Beeswax production begins in earnest with the expanded colonies. During honey extraction, the wax cappings removed from honeycomb are collected and rendered into pure beeswax blocks. This golden substance becomes a valuable byproduct, supplied to candle makers who create long-burning, sweet-smelling candles, to salve crafters who blend it with healing herbs, and to woodworkers who use it for furniture finishing. The Hive Tenders develop efficient systems for collecting, cleaning, and rendering the wax, ensuring nothing from the hives goes to waste while maintaining focus on the bees' wellbeing.

The expanded glades become places of quiet industry and natural beauty. The steady hum of working bees provides a soothing backdrop to forest life, and the sight of thousands of pollinators moving between flowers creates a living tapestry of cooperation between plant and insect. Visitors to the glades learn to move slowly and respect the bees' space, and many report finding the experience meditative and restorative. The work attracts those with calm temperaments and strong connections to nature, and it is not uncommon for druids and rangers to spend time apprenticing with the glades to deepen their understanding of these remarkable insects.

Benefits

The Honey Glades II produce an additional 400 gold per month in revenue through expanded honey production and specialty varieties, plus valuable beeswax that supplies settlement craftspeople. Like their precursor, these glades generate 2 Prestige.
