Family Branch Nests

Prerequisite: Duke's Hollow Tree
An upgrade for the dimensional expansion.

Description

The Family Branch Nests are living homes grown directly from the trees of the Elderwood Grove through Goodberry’s dimensional magic. Instead of being built, they are shaped by guiding the growth of branches that weave together into large, natural dwellings. Each nest forms high in the canopy, blending perfectly into the forest as if it had always been there. The trees remain alive, their branches curving and fusing into spacious, nest-like sanctuaries that grow, breathe, and thrive as part of the forest itself.

The process begins by selecting strong, flexible trees whose branches can be shaped to form the dwelling. The magic accelerates natural growth, creating thick, interwoven structures that fuse into smooth living wood. Leaves form roofs that provide shade, air, and camouflage, while the bark and branches maintain their vitality. From the outside, a Branch Nest appears like a colossal bird’s nest wrapped around the tree, rich with greenery and seamlessly part of the surrounding canopy. Its appearance changes beautifully with the seasons, blooming in spring, cooling in summer, glowing in autumn, and revealing intricate woodwork in winter.

Inside, the nests are bright and comfortable, their curved walls and floors made entirely from living wood. Openings in the weaving allow sunlight and fresh air to filter through, while shutters and woven screens control light and weather. The smooth interior surfaces retain the beauty of natural grain, creating a warm, organic atmosphere. Furniture and storage are shaped from the living structure itself, forming natural benches, shelves, and sleeping alcoves. The circular layout encourages closeness, with a central gathering space where families eat, work, and share stories together.

Because the nests are alive, they heal and adapt on their own. Minor cracks mend, new growth strengthens weak points, and leaves regulate the temperature through the seasons. Families care for their homes as living companions, pruning, shaping, and tending them to maintain balance. This shared stewardship strengthens both the structure and the bonds between family members, as each generation learns to nurture the home that shelters them. The design encourages cooperation and constant interaction with nature, making the dwelling both resilient and sustainable.

Living in a Family Branch Nest means being part of the forest in every sense. The homes sway gently with the wind, filled with birdsong and filtered sunlight. Families live close to nature’s rhythm, finding peace in the harmony of living wood and community life. These homes embody the Elderwood Grove’s philosophy of coexistence, proving that shelter and forest can exist as one. For those who dwell in them, life among the branches is not just comfortable but sacred, a daily reminder that they live within the heart of a living world.
