Description

Bark Hall is a grand community gathering place crafted entirely from fallen timber and living wood, designed as the social heart of the Elderwood Grove. Built without cutting a single living tree, the hall stands as a testament to harmony between craftsmanship and nature. Its massive oak foundation logs create a wide, stable floor that can comfortably hold more than a hundred people, while the structure’s design uses only materials already given by the forest, shaped by careful carpentry and gentle druidic magic.

The walls rise like those of a great log hall, each beam fitted to preserve the trees’ natural curves, giving the structure a sense of life and flow. Gaps between the logs are sealed with moss, clay, and living vines that continue to grow over time, strengthening the hall as it ages. The roof is supported by living trees at each corner, their branches woven together to form an organic lattice. Over this framework, birch bark shingles overlap in layered sheets that shed rain while letting filtered sunlight through leaves that still grow above.

Inside, the hall is a vast single chamber with a high vaulted ceiling and sun-dappled light playing across smooth wooden floors. Benches carved directly from the supporting logs line the walls, and stumps or carved seats fill the center, each decorated with wildlife motifs. A raised platform at one end serves as a stage for performances, announcements, and gatherings, backed by a wall of flowering vines that bloom in soft white and purple hues, shifting with the seasons and events celebrated there.

The space is designed for warmth, comfort, and community. River-stone fireplaces at both ends provide heat and serve as communal cooking hearths, while the acoustics allow voices and music to carry clearly without echo. Bark panels mounted along the walls soften and direct sound, letting groups converse comfortably even during crowded events. The air carries the faint scent of beeswax and wood polish, with floors that glow in the firelight, worn smooth by generations of celebration and council.

Surrounding gardens and softly glowing moss-lined paths guide visitors to Bark Hall at night, turning it into a beacon of peace and fellowship. By day it hosts markets and meetings, by night it transforms into a dining or festival hall filled with laughter and song. Every part of the structure reflects the settlement’s belief in balance and renewal: nothing taken, everything shared, and beauty grown from what nature freely provides.
